Traditional Zulu male clothing is usually light, consisting of a two-part apron (similar to a loincloth) used to cover the genitals and buttocks. The front piece is called the umutsha and is usually made of springbok or other animal hide twisted into different bands which cover the genitals. Most Zulu are Christian. Some of the most common churches in South Africa for the Zulu are the African Initiated Church, the Zion Christian Church and the Apostolic Churches, Dutch Reformed Church, Anglican Church and the Catholic Church. To appeal to the spirit world, a diviner (sangoma) must invoke the ancestors through divination processes to determine the problem. A herbalist (inyanga) prepares a mixture to be consumed (muthi) to influence the ancestors. As such, diviners and herbalists play an important part in the daily lives of the Zulu people. However, a distinction is made between white muthi (umuthi omhlope), which has positive effects, such as healing or the prevention or reversal of misfortune, and black muthi (umuthi omnyama), which can bring illness or death to others, or ill-gotten wealth to the user. Users of black muthi are considered witches, and shunned by society. With this in mind, Zulu are heavily influence by religion and traditions. These influences have played a role in Zulu dating among the older generations.
